My name is Angela…I am fat and not so happy…
I am a 27 year old female who will be 28 in May of 2009. I am and have always been overweight for as long as I can remember. I eat when I am happy, I eat when I am sad, I eat when I am bored. I love food and it obviously loves me. I am tired of this body as I am sure everyone else is, too. I am tired of being the fat friend. I am tired of being the one who everyone stares at when I reach for food. I am sick and tired of having to pay twice as much for clothes! I am sick of my clothes not being as cute as my friends cause they are fat old lady looking clothes.
I know that you need to eat less and exercise more. I have tried that, but I am needing help with the whole motivation thing. Plus I don’t have the money to go to the gym and “work out” or even know what the heck I am doing in there. So here is my plea, and I hope you understand.
I NEED HELP AND I NEED IT NOW! If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know.

You have come to the right place if your looking for support and motivation! This site is full of it, and full of amazingly positive people! I’m pretty new to this site, but I’ve already found it extremely helpful! You are not the only one going threw this, and there are tons of people on here that would love to be here for you!
You can do this, we all can! Good Luck to you!
Hi Angela, welcome!
Buddyslim is such a great place for support and motivation. We are all here to help each other out, and being here helps us realize we’re not alone in this. I know you said you can’t afford a gym membership, but i suggest checking out some gyms in your area anyway. Sometimes they offer great deals to get new members (I pay $10 a month for a pretty great gym!). Just start walking (either on a treadmill or outside), and I promise you will see results really soon! Drink lots of water too, it aids in weight loss tremendously. Incorporate fruits, veggies and whole grains into your diet too. Green tea is excellent as well. I could go on and go but i won’t lol Any questions at all don’t hesitate to send me a message. Welcome again and good luck!!

Hi Angela,
Welcome! Your relationship with food is much like many of us on this site. I call food my “drug of choice”. However, because of how I feel when I overindulge… it’s just not worth it anymore. If have felt exactly like you do. You want some advice. I guess the best thing I can suggest is Take it slow. Start small. For instance, change what you have been eating for breakfast.. or tell yourself you will not eat anything beyond dinner. As far as exercise, walking is one of the best things you can do for yourself and it is almost free. You do need a decent pair of shoes. Start by walking around your block. Then each time you walk, see if you can go a little further. I am a major goal setter. Make yourself a spreadsheet with each week on it, and keep track of your weight loss/gain each week. Or even with a calendar. I think it helps to visually see if you are making progress. The little ticker is also nice to see:)
Anyway, just take a breath and go for it! You’ll be amazed how it changes your mood!
Take care, and let us know how you are doing.
Debbie
Hello Angela,
Welcome to buddyslim. The people here are just amazing…support every step of the way!! We are here for the days when everything is going right and for those days that you just wanna give up.
These guys listed some great tips for you. I can not tell you how important the water is on losing weight…it can really slow your weight loss down if your not drinking water and lots of it.
As for where to start…do like these guys said. Pick out some baby steps that wont be too bad to deal with…and add to it.
Some people on here are great planners…if that works for you…make ya a plan. If you like me…kind of fly by the seat of your pants type of girl…just pick those baby steps and a length of time to practice them…like a week..before adding anything else.
Whatever you do…realize girl your gonna have days when it seems to all go to hell…and you wanna give up…you just cant. Come in here and vent away if you need to. Put it as a title of your blog …help…and we will come running!! We will be here for you…your one of us now. Debbie
Welcome Angela! I am just starting off on the site as well as of this week, but let me tell you- there are a lot of great people here! You’ve come to the right place of advice, motivation, and just some friends on the same journey as you =)
As for getting started, I agree with the above comments, just take it slow for now; start walking whenever you can, journal your food intake so you know where you stand and start cutting back a little at a time, switch to eating some more fruits and veggies, drink lots of water to help you feel full, and make sure you come here a lot and read all the great posts!
Also, I joined one of the weight loss challenge teams on the forums, you could do that, then have a little extra motivation to weight in and get some points for the team!
You won’t need a gym to lose. Just baby steps. Choose one of the following to do tomorrow.
Walk instead of driving whenever you can.
This is from small steps.gov in the walking category. Just try one
(# 1) Walk to work.
(# 4) Walk during lunch hour.
(#
(# 9) Take family walk after dinner.
(# 14) Walk to your place of worship instead of driving.
(# 15) Walk kids to school.
(# 16) Get a dog and walk it.
(# 19) Replace Sunday drive with Sunday walk.
(# 22) Get off a stop early & walk.
(# 31) Go for a half-hour walk instead of watching TV.
(# 57) Make a Saturday morning walk a group habit.
(# 58) Walk briskly in the mall.
(# 89) Park farther from destination and walk.
(# 92) Walk instead of sitting around.
(# 94) Take your dog on longer walks.
(# 97) Walk the beach instead of sunbathing.
(# 98) Walk to a co-worker’s desk instead of emailing or calling them.
(# 114) When walking, go up the hills instead of around them.

Thanks for all of the great advice! Water is already a big part of my diet and it will be more so. I drink 1 caffine free diet soda a day. It’s my weakness…is that bad?
No way! Diet isnt about food being bad it’s about treating yourself good. Just figure out what is doable for you. Don’t go under 1200 calories, most people have success with 1500/ day, but I know ones that eat 1800/ day and exercise with success, So it’s all about what works for you.
